Creating a More Sustainable Future
Sustainability is a key part of how we operate at Jenkinsons. From responsible sourcing and low-carbon operations to furniture reuse and waste reduction, we work to minimise environmental impact while delivering practical workplace solutions for organisations across the UK.
With more than 100 years of experience, we understand that sustainable office interiors require long-term thinking. Every decision, from product selection to delivery and end-of-life furniture management, is made with environmental responsibility in mind.
Whether you're planning an office fit out, refurbishment or furniture project, we can help you make informed choices that support your sustainability goals without compromising on quality or performance.
Responsible Sourcing
Choosing sustainable materials starts with responsible procurement.
Jenkinsons is FSC® certified giving customers confidence that our timber-based products come from responsibly managed forests. FSC certification promotes biodiversity, protects natural habitats and supports ethical forestry practices through a fully traceable chain of custody.
By working with trusted manufacturers and carefully selected suppliers, we help businesses specify office furniture and workplace solutions with greater environmental confidence.
Our Net Zero Commitment
Reducing carbon emissions remains a major focus of our environmental strategy.
Jenkinsons is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and has already reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 57.86% compared with our baseline year, exceeding our original 2030 reduction target.
Our carbon reduction programme focuses on every area of the business.
Scope 1 – Lower Emissions from Our Fleet
We continue to replace company vehicles with hybrid and electric alternatives, helping reduce fuel consumption and operational emissions.
Scope 2 – Renewable Energy
Our Knowsley headquarters is powered using renewable electricity, supported by on-site solar generation to reduce reliance on grid energy.
Scope 3 – Working with Our Supply Chain
The majority of emissions associated with office furniture occur throughout the wider supply chain. We work closely with manufacturers and suppliers to better understand, measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions while encouraging more sustainable production methods.
Supporting a Circular Economy
Extending the life of office furniture is one of the most effective ways to reduce waste and lower carbon emissions.
Rather than replacing furniture unnecessarily, we encourage organisations to consider refurbishment, reuse and recycling wherever practical.
Our circular economy approach includes:
· Zero waste to landfill
· Closed-loop recycling programmes
· Reuse-first furniture strategies
· Bulk packaging to reduce material waste
· Waste site surveys to maximise recycling opportunities
By keeping products and materials in use for longer, businesses can reduce disposal costs, conserve resources and minimise their environmental impact.
Sustainable Furniture Reuse
Office furniture often has many years of useful life remaining.
Where suitable, we help customers retain, refurbish or relocate existing furniture before recommending replacement. This approach supports sustainability while often reducing project costs.
When furniture is no longer required, we work alongside charities, social enterprises and community organisations to give quality furniture a second life instead of sending it to landfill.

Low Carbon Logistics
Transport plays an important role in reducing operational emissions.
Our fleet uses intelligent route planning technology to improve delivery efficiency through:
· Optimised delivery routes
· Reduced vehicle idling
· Smarter journey planning
These measures help lower fuel consumption while maintaining reliable deliveries across the UK.
Supporting Local Manufacturing and Supply Chains
Working with local suppliers reduces transport emissions while strengthening UK manufacturing.
Today, 86% of our supply chain is located within 45 miles of our Knowsley headquarters, helping us to:
· Reduce transport-related carbon emissions
· Support local manufacturers
· Improve supply chain resilience
· Strengthen regional economies
Sourcing closer to home also enables greater collaboration with suppliers and provides improved visibility throughout the supply chain.
Sustainability Across Every Office Project
Environmental responsibility is considered throughout every office fit out, refurbishment and furniture project we deliver.
From selecting responsibly sourced materials and ergonomic office furniture to reducing waste and encouraging furniture reuse, sustainability is integrated into the way we work.
By combining practical workplace design with responsible environmental practices, we help organisations create office interiors that support both their business objectives and wider sustainability commitments.
Conclusion
Creating more sustainable workplaces involves far more than choosing environmentally friendly products. It requires careful planning, responsible sourcing, efficient logistics and a commitment to extending the life of office furniture wherever possible.
At Jenkinsons, sustainability is embedded throughout our business. From achieving significant carbon reductions to supporting the circular economy and local supply chains, we're committed to helping organisations create office interiors that deliver lasting environmental, social and commercial value.
