Shakespeare North Playhouse at a glance

This is the inspiration for Shakespeare North Playhouse, which is a Shakesperean era playhouse, based on the cockpit in court theatre of 1630. This unique theatre is at the heart of a remarkable and contemporary building for education and social activity. A place that welcomes its community and theatre lovers from around the world to celebrate creativity and the joy of performance.

It is a regeneration project that reawakens and reinvigorates Prescot and brings a sense of excitement and opportunity with it, establishing Prescot as a thriving part of the Liverpool city region.

“The Cockpit theatre will feel like stepping back in time. It's an exact replica of how a theatre would have looked in the 17th century, with no screws or nails used and hand-made with 60 tons of English oak. It's a real contrast to the rest of the building, which is so modern.”

“We're here to tell stories, that's what Shakespeare was good at.”

Claire Will,
Director of Marketing and Commercial
