University of Cumbria - Hugh Pollard Lecture Theatre
Jenkinsons recently had the privilege of contributing to the refurbishment of the Hugh Pollard Lecture Theatre at the University of Cumbria, delivering a fresh, inclusive, and visually engaging learning environment.
Our team provided detailed plans and visual proposals, working closely with university representatives to ensure the new space met both functional and aesthetic requirements. A key priority was the incorporation of a carefully curated colour scheme. Shades of green, blue, and grey were chosen for their calming and welcoming effect.
Beyond aesthetics, accessibility was at the forefront of the project. The university requested specially designed desks to accommodate students with physical impairments, ensuring that wheelchair users can comfortably participate in lectures alongside their peers.
The result is a modern, inclusive, and thoughtfully designed lecture theatre that enhances the student experience while reflecting the university’s commitment to accessibility and well-being.

Seating Area
The seating area in the refurbished Hugh Pollard Lecture Theatre features modern foldable chairs paired with fixed desks, creating a functional and efficient learning space. This design ensures both comfort and practicality, catering to the diverse needs of the university’s students.
Charging Points
The are designed with modern student’s needs in mind, featuring built-in charging points for added convenience. This ensures that students can easily power their laptops, tablets, and other devices throughout lectures without disruption.

Wheelchair Access
At the front of the Hugh Pollard Lecture Theatre, three specially designed wheelchair-accessible desks provide an inclusive and comfortable learning experience. These desks feature ample space to accommodate wheelchair users, ensuring ease of movement and accessibility.
“The University of Cumbria was pleased to collaborate with Jenkinsons Office Interiors for the refurbishment of the Hugh Pollard Lecture Theatre at our Lancaster campus, following a competitive tender process. Throughout the project, Jenkinsons demonstrated a professional and understanding attitude, adeptly coordinating with the university and other contractors on site.
Jenkinsons provided comprehensive plans and visual proposals, offering various colour options, which were shared with students and colleagues. Their extensive experience, knowledge, and advice were invaluable when selecting finishes and fabric colours to modernise the 208-seat lecture theatre, instilling confidence within our team.
The project required adherence to a strict timeline, commencing after the students’ Christmas break and concluding before their return in January 2025.
Jenkinsons managed this timeline impeccably, with Jacqui Morris maintaining clear communication throughout this period.
The delivery programme was executed professionally, meeting the universities’ satisfaction. I am thoroughly satisfied with the services provided by Jacqui and the Jenkinsons team, from the initial concept to completion, including handling additional furniture needs and snagging. I have no hesitation in recommending Jenkinsons for future projects within the University campuses.
