The Health on the High Street Project
The Health on the High Street project in Barnsley is a landmark initiative that is reshaping how residents access healthcare, placing vital services right at the heart of the town centre. As part of Barnsley Council’s wider regeneration ambitions, the first floor of the Alhambra Shopping Centre has been transformed into a modern health and wellbeing hub, marking one of the UK’s largest relocations of hospital outpatient services outside a traditional clinical setting.
Jenkinsons was proud to support this transformative project, working in close partnership with Barnsley Council and Barnsley Hospital to help bring the vision to life. The new Alhambra health hub welcomes patients for services including Ophthalmology, Optometry and Retinal Screening, with further outpatient services set to follow as part of a phased opening through to 2028.
This project demonstrates the power of collaboration. By working together with Barnsley Hospital and Barnsley Council, we’ve helped support a space that not only improves access to healthcare but also contributes to the long-term regeneration and wellbeing of Barnsley’s town centre.
Main Reception Area
Generous open space and a variety of seating options allow the reception area to comfortably accommodate high visitor numbers, offering flexibility for patients, visitors and staff alike. By combining contemporary green-toned furniture with an open, airy layout, the reception area supports a positive first impression and enhances the overall patient experience.
Examination Room
The examination rooms within the Health on the High Street hub have been designed to support both clinical efficiency and patient comfort. Jenkinsons supplied a range of practical, high-quality stools and chairs, carefully selected to meet the demands of a modern healthcare environment.
Pediatric Waiting Area
The paediatric waiting area has been thoughtfully designed to create a cosy, calming environment for children and their families. Soft green tones are used throughout to promote a sense of calm and comfort, helping to reduce anxiety and create a more reassuring healthcare experience.
